Bottom Rot

Apparently bottom rot is a really common thing when growing tomatoes.  My friend Vickie's husband Matt brought this to my attention. I though a bug had gotten to my plant. Turns out that a lack of calcium in the dirt can cause this.  Makes me sad that this is what has come to my first tomato that was ripening!

Hope this can get under control before I lose all my plants to bottoms rot! Oh the adventures of gardening!

I asked my dad for advice since he had told me he had once tried his hand at tomatoes.  He said he has neve heard of this problem because in Arizona the hardest part is keeping them watered!

In other news... Here are my radishes!

  1. Radishes and tomatoes! All of Grandpa's favorites. I love your outdoor furniture. Where is it from? I am going to try my hand (with my black thumb) at gardening these days. It looks like a lot of fun...despite the small disappointments that you've run into.

  2. Hi sweetie, Grandpa would be so proud!! Grandpa thought too much water created tomato rot, my Uncle Jack believed that also but they both grew them in hot country!! Google it!!
