Bennett got Tubes

Bennett was having constant ear infections. The qualifications to get you considered for tubes was something like 4 ear infections within 6 months or 5 within a year - which Bennett had had about that many. We were (mostly me) so nervous about him being put under but we knew it had to be done.

Because of the record snow storm the original surgery was cancelled and rescheduled to a few days before Bennett's first birthday (and the day grandma Shirley was flying into town!)

Surgery was on March 4th and we at to be there at 6:00am

This is us waiting to be taken back

He has NO idea what he is in for

The gown was very interesting... Cute once it was on - but tricky to actually get on!

Still trying to get all the ties

Happy boy

We put the hospital socks on him cause I thought he might get cold... These were adult ankle socks...

The looked like knee high uggs on him!

The socks didn't last long

Still waiting

He really was in a fabulous mood - wanting to be active and crawl around so it was a task to keep him occupied!

When it was finally his turn to go back to the O.R. One of the older sweet nurses came over and got Bennett. She told us not to worry and Bennett took to her right away. He must have sensed she was a grandma ... Cause he was carried off by her and didn't cry at all... Or seem to care that we weren't going with him.

The surgery took about 10 minutes. They say the anesthesia is what takes the longest. They also warned me that he was not going to be happy when he wakes up.

The funny feeling of waking up from anesthesia is the worst for kids and babies. I was warned he most likely would beat me up - so they told me to keep his arms tucked under the blanket and kind of swaddle him.

He came to and I immediately got to hold him. They had me lay down in the bed with him and sooth him. I asked if I could nurse him and that's what really helped. The boy was hungry!

Here's the nurse wheeling us back to our original curtained area where Chris was waiting for us.

Poor baby boy was not feeling good - no pictures Dada!

We went home and took a long nap. After he woke up you would have never guessed he had surgery earlier that day!

Goofy smile playing with his drum set

Silly boy!

And that was that - we survived tubes!
